Sierra County is one of the most food-insecure counties in the country
The food insecurity rate for children is at 33.7%
26.7% of the total population and 43.7% of our children
live at or below the Federal Poverty level.
60.2 Percent of families are single-parent families, twice the statewide average.
The Coronavirus pandemic and recent fires have both taken their toll.
Monsoon flooding has ruined grain crops on farms
Non-Profit People Growing Together is committed to Growing Youth, Growing Gardens, Greenhouses, and Growing Community to help maintain year-round high desert Sierra County food security
What We Do:
Building Soil to provide nutrient-rich growing environments in the high desert.
Model a Sustainable Earth Battery Greenhouse to conserve water and mitigate harsh temperatures, wind, and water events that occur in the high desert habitats.
Grow Organic produce year-round to sustain food banks and provide low-cost organic produce to the citizens of Sierra County.
Educate and support parties interested in home-based produce gardening.
Cooperate with other non-profits such as the 4th Street Community Garden, churches, and civic clubs to increase food availability locally.
How We Do It:
We Organize Individuals and Organizations to contribute time and funds so that we and future generations will thrive.
You Can Make A Difference
We have raised $25,000 toward an Earth Battery Greenhouse for fresh winter food. We need $33,000 more. We have a chance at a $25,000 grant, but here is the challenge:
We need to raise $3,000 from as many unique email addresses as possible between the 18th of July and the 12th of August to gauge community support for our Greenhouse
being erected to benefit the community for years to come. Would you use the DONATE button below to contribute $5, $10, or even $25 between July 18 and August 12th?
Every person and every dollar counts! For more information, please call 575-223-0989.
